Letter from the Chairman of the Board:
The past few months have been very exciting for R.E.A.C.H. Youth Foundation, Inc. Our organization is beginning to grow and expand and we are pleased to be collaborating with other agencies to spread the message and expand the services to teens and families in Orange County .
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. I was invited to be the chair for the 2006 Blue Ribbon Campaign in Orange County . This coordinated community effort works hard to spread the message about the importance of child abuse prevention and awareness in our community. The goal of this campaign was to reach over 1 million Orange County residents.
Our 2006 Character and Leadership Institute Program will launch in August. This partnership with a local alternative education school will provide at risk teens with a wilderness camping experience that will change their lives. The planning committee has been working hard to create a program that will challenge these teens to look within themselves and make changes in their lives. The program takes place in Mammoth, California which provides a great backdrop for the learning and educational components of the program.
The R.E.A.C.H. Teen Parent Education Program is growing and expanding as a result of the generous support of the Children and Families Commission of Orange County. We are working with teens at Serra High School in San Juan Capistrano . In May we are providing a speaker on the Cosmetology industry. The girls are very excited to hear about the opportunities this career can give them in the future.
We are currently working on building the R.E.A.C.H. Youth Health and Fitness Program and bringing it to the local Middle Schools. This program will work to fight the problem of childhood obesity and teach the importance of heart healthy eating and living. Professionals in several fields are working together to design and implement a program for youth and families.
We are very excited about the future and look forward to additional growth in the next few months. I would like to thank all the tireless volunteers that have helped us grow to this point.
Sincerely,
Vince Garcia
Chairman of the Board
